Trent University and its food service workers have reached a tentative settlement on a new collective agreement, officials announced Thursday.
The deal comes comes just before a Jan. 31 strike out lockout deadline and follows negotiations between Local 3205 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and Compass Group Canada Ltd., which operates as Chartwells at Trent University.
CUPE will hold a ratification vote for its members later this week, officials stated.
The union will not disclose details of the tentative settlement until members have had the opportunity to review its contents and vote.
The workers and supporters held a lunchtime rally on Jan. 22 in front of the university, where they were joined by CUPE Ontario president Fred Hahn.
Chartwells is one of nine food service providers working with Trent University and provides food service on the Symons Campus in Peterborough. CUPE Local 3205, represents approximately 110 food service employees employed by Chartwells.
