Most long-term care staff have experienced violence at work
A new poll has found that 88 per cent of long-term-care staff across Ontario — including some polled in Peterborough — experience violence in the workplace at the hands of elderly residents.
“It’s obviously a degrading work environment,” said Michael Hurley, president of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU). “It should be very concerning to everyone.”
A total of 1,223 long-term care workers were consulted for a recent telephone poll, which was commissioned by both OCHU and the Ontario division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).
