Protesters locked out of MPP’s Lindsay office as they await response on cancellation of basic income

It might be David versus Goliath, but participants in the basic income pilot program who say the cancellation of the program has pushed them back into poverty continued a peaceful protest outside MPP Laurie Scott’s constituency office on Tuesday as they wait for an apology from the Ontario government.

And they don’t plan to leave until they get a response.

Lawyer and social advocate Mike Perry said it is “a peaceful, respectful exercise of freedom of expression and protest.”

Staff at Scott’s office told the group on Monday, March 25, they would try to help them connect with Social Services Minister Lisa MacLeod’s office, which oversees the basic income program.
